Fair Trade & Responsible Sourcing
Fair trade is part of our commitment to better business. We believe products should be made with care, sourced responsibly, and sold in a way that respects the people, materials, and traditions behind them.
What Fair Trade Means
Fair trade is about giving producers, workers, and artisan communities a fairer deal. It supports better pay, safer working conditions, dignity, and more sustainable ways of working. For customers, it means choosing products with greater care and understanding the impact behind what they buy.
Why It Matters
Many handmade instruments are created using traditional skills passed down through generations. When these products are sourced responsibly, they help support craft, culture, and the communities behind them. This is especially important in a world where mass-produced, disposable products are often made with little connection to the people who create them.
Our Approach
We work with suppliers who share our values around fairer trade, responsible sourcing, natural materials, and traditional craft. Many of our products are handmade, giving each piece its own character, sound, and story.
Not every product we sell is formally Fairtrade certified. Certification is not always available or practical for every handmade instrument, supplier, or material. Instead, we focus on making careful sourcing decisions, building trusted supplier relationships, and choosing products that reflect quality, usefulness, cultural value, and positive impact.
Our BAFTS Membership
Carved Culture is a member of BAFTS, the British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers. BAFTS supports independent businesses that follow fair trade principles, and our membership reflects our continued commitment to responsible sourcing and ethical trade.
A Better Way to Buy
Every purchase is a choice. By choosing carefully sourced instruments, customers help support traditional craft, artisan communities, music education, and a more thoughtful way to buy.
