How To Make Coconut Pot At Home (Guide)

This coconut pot was one of our first handmade products as a craft distributor and in this article you are going to learn how to make yourself a coconut pot at home. Before we can get started making our coconut pot we will need a dust mask, protective eyewear, sandpaper, saw, wood glue, scissors, a bowl, a cup, a drill, a chisel, a butter knife, and finally a coconut.

How To Make Coconut Pot (Video)

To make a coconut pot, start by drilling holes to release and drain the hydrating coconut water, then carefully saw off the top to form the base stand. Use a butter knife to scoop out the coconut meat, which can be eaten or saved for making coconut milk, oil, or desiccated coconut for cooking and skincare. Sand the shell with sandpaper to remove the outer coir and darken it, sanding both shell and base while flattening the bottom for stability and removing inner pith to prevent mold; smooth the edges for safe handling and a flat surface for gluing.

Apply glue to the shell’s flat edge, attach the base, and let dry for 24 hours, filling any holes with wood glue mixed with coconut dust. Finally, rub coconut or food-grade mineral oil over the shell to create a satin finish that highlights the grain. Coconut shells are versatile, easy to work with, and can be crafted into bowls, pots, candle holders, shakers, jewelry, and more.

Uses For A Coconut Pot

These handmade coconut pots from Ivory Coast are versatile and useful in many rooms. Large pots serve as sturdy cutlery holders, adding a natural touch to dining tables, while smaller pots make eco-friendly plant containers for succulents, retaining moisture better than plastic. They’re also perfect for organizing pens on desks or holding toothbrushes in bathrooms.

In kitchens, coconut pots store sugar with easy access, dispense teabags for quick brewing, or hold coffee grounds and waste. They can collect loose coins, keep jewelry and trinkets by your bedside, or serve as a remote control holder to prevent losing remotes. Small pots are handy for snacks or storing strong-flavored vegetables like garlic and chili. Artists can use them to hold paintbrushes, making creativity part of everyday life. What will you use your coconut pot for?
