Homemade Lemonade Recipe

Lemonade is a simple cold drink to have during the summer season, and you can have this fizzy or still, on a hot day, I like to add a handful of ice to make it extra nice! The variety of lemon can also play a part in how your lemonade will turn out, but generally Meyer lemons are the sweetest variety.

In this recipe you can adjust the sugar to your personal preference. Whilst this drink is great on a hot day, you can serve It year round. If you’d like it fizzy then you will need to make the simple syrup as normal and to dilute it, use a sparkling water instead. There are many clichés based around lemonade, as the saying goes “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”, and as you are here, the perfect time is now!

Ingredients

3/4 cup sugar (150g) 4 cups water 1 cup lemon juice

Method

  1. The first thing you will need to do is make a simple syrup. To do this place your sugar and 1 cup of water into a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Stir the mixture well so that the sugar dissolves and then remove from the heat.
  2. Whilst the water and sugar are heating up, start squeezing your lemons. Depending on the size of your lemons of course, but 5 should be enough to get one cup of lemon juice.
  3. Once you have squeezed enough lemon juice out of your lemons and the simple syrups sugar has dissolved you can then combine them together by pouring it into a jug. Add an additional two or three cups of water to dilute it to taste. At this point if the lemonade is too sweet, add more lemon juice to taste.
  4. Put the jug into the fridge for about 30 minutes or so and afterwards serve in a glass with ice and sliced lemons if you’d like.
